The uses for boulders are as unique as each individual stone. Traditionally, a garden path is used to create a natural walkway, i.e., stepping stones across an open area. Large rocks are frequently placed artistically to accent a landscape. Walls can be constructed entirely of boulders or they can be added to enrich the texture and variety of a traditionally dry-stacked stone wall. Water features become dramatic with the use of big stones and rocks. The right boulder can make a perfect outdoor bench. Or, consider an outdoor firepit made entirely of boulders nestled into an irregular flagstone patio.
